Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals is the class that we require all students who are new to the art of BJJ to first attend. Here we focus on learning the basic movements and skills that are essential to progressing in Jiu-Jitsu and establishing a balanced game.
A typical 60 minute class consists of a light warm-up, observing and drilling techniques involving various submissions, sweeps, escapes, take-downs, etc., then occasionally ending with specific training.
Currently new students may begin attending Advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well as Submission Grappling classes after earning their second white belt stripe. For committed students this level can typically be achieved within 3-6 months.
Advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu incorporates drills and techniques involving sequences, transitions, and other more progressive BJJ strategy. Members begin to specialize, finding their own game and often become dominant top or bottom players. Most 90 minute classes end with 30-45 minutes of smooth controlled rolling.
Submission Grappling
Submission Grappling is essentially Advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu minus the uniform. This style of BJJ forces competitors to use a limited amount of body hooks and handles to subdue their opponents, rather than rely on the large number of grips and chokes available when wearing traditional gi’s and belts.
Youth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Youth BJJ provides the amazing benefits of Jiu-Jitsu, instilling self-defense, discipline, and self-confidence at an early age. The class follows the Gracie Barra Fundamentals curriculum, emphasizing technique over strength. Ages 10 – 14.
Open Mat
Open Mat is a two hour open time period with no instruction allowing members to work on any aspect of their game that they desire. The mat is often split between a variety of students practicing both gi and no-gi rolling as well as a few working together on specific training and conditioning.
